A protest was held yesterday at the end of Highway 633 near Constance Lake First Nation. Band member Alan Ferris called Moose FM yesterday afternoon to let us know why the protest took place. An incident happened in Hearst that spoke of discrimination against First Nations members who come to the town. Ferris spoke about an elder being who had gone to play bingo in Hearst was told publicly that he smelled. Apparently the elder was wearing Old Spice and it offended some of the ladies in the hall. Hearst’s mayor, Roger Sigouin and the person involved in the incident are expected to be in Constance Lake today to apologize for the insult. Ferris says Constance Lake residents call Hearst their home town.
