Ok I know people have been geocaching for a few years now but I've just discovered the game. According to Wikipedia, "Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and "treasure," usually toys or trinkets of little value. "

It was a bit daunting, a bit frustrating but the hardest part is getting to know the gps you are using and then getting out there to start hunting. I used a Garmin Etrex for my first expedition and will be trying out different devices before deciding to buy one for myself. Next - a classic Magellan.

Geocaching is a great hobby and can be done by virtually anyone. I have a new blended family of 5 kids (ages 6-11) so this is something we are all discovering and learning together and let me tell you the first cache we found was exciting - to say the least!

One of the caches we found was purely by accident. The caches we started with were located along the fitness trail and one particular walker had noticed something unusual up in a tree and took it upon himself to move the "container" 1 km up the trail and set it on a picnic table. We brought it back to where it belonged so hopefully someone else will have the chance to find it soon.

I recommend this activity to anyone who likes to do hiking or just be outdoors. The bonus feature is that you are on a treasure hunt and you have no clue what you are going to find.
